University of Sao Paulo - High Tech Auditorium for Ethnomusicological Research and Presentation

The auditorium was an initiative of the Anthropology Department at the University of Sao Paulo (USP), which needed a space to play its field recordings and documentaries, while also being a didactic room for Etnomusicology material and research.
The initial measurements and diagnostics made by OMiD international audio academy showed two main problems: lack of acoustic projection and high ambient noise level originating from the audience itself.
Additionally, the room was build to host surround presentations.
The deflection panels increase the initial time delay gap (ITDG) and guide the sound to the back diffusers, thus creating a homogenous sounding room. To reduce the level of internal noise, broad-band absorption panels have been installed in the ceiling, taking advantage of the natural sockets present in the concrete structure. The existing closets have also been incorporated into the proposal in order to maintain acoustic balance and keep the sound-stage and simmetric characteristics for an optimized stereo or surround listening experience.
